this is the interview that Mat gave me when the new PRIMAL FEAR single was out, in september 2001

1.simona:
WHAT IS THE NEW SINGLE ALL ABOUT??
MAT SINNER:
We've recorded a song for the Phil Lynott tribute sampler, which was supported
by Phils mother Philomena. It's a poart of the Roisin Dub Fund to raise a
statue for Phil in Dublin. The whole Primal Fear band are great fans of Phil
and it was a honour to be part of the line up. Now we had the idea to release
this song as a nostalgic 7" vinyl single - coloured vinyl - backed with two
other cover versions "Breaker" (from Accept) and "Kill the King" (Rainbow). I
think it's a cool compilation for collectors and fans.

2.HOW IS BLACK SUN GOING TO SOUND LIKE??ARE YOU GONNA CONTINUE ON THE OLD LINE OR SHOULD WE EXPECT SOME CHANGES IN THE PF STYLE??

MAT SINNER:
Why should we change things, when Nuclear Fire was by far our most successful
album so far. We have to come up with great songs and a great production. We
know, how difficult it will be to top Nuclear Fire, but we're working very hard
on this!

3.YOU GUYS ARE NOW AFTER A LONG TOUR-HOW DID THAT FEEL LIKE??

MAT SINNER:
We have five more shows to go in Germany and in Greece and aside of this we're
writing songs like hell. There is no break or a lot of time for other things.
The machine has to roll !!!

4.WHEN SHOULD WE EXPECT THE NEW ALBUM??

MAT SINNER:
The release date so far is April 29th in 2002 - let's wait and see if we're
read!!!

5.A WORD FOR THE ROMANIAN FANS...

MAT SINNER:
Shame that Romania is one of the few countries we didn't played so far - but
with the new album, we will work hard on a show in your country - Long live
Metal!

SIMONA:HOW DID IT FEEL TO PLAY AT THE GODS OF METAL FESTIVAL WITH JUDAS PRIEST AND MEGADETH??
MAT:IN MY VIEW IT WAS A FANTASTIC DAY.THE FESTIVAL WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND OUR RESPONSE FROM THE AUDIENCE REALLY SHOWS THAT WE CAN COMPETE NOW WITH THE BIGGER NAMES.I NEVER HEARD SUCH A LOUD AND ENTHUSIASTIC CROWD RESPONDING TO ANGEL IN BLACK, NUCLEAR FIRE AND ALL THE OTHER SONGS.IT WAS REALLY COOL TO MEET WITH OUR FRIENDS FROM NEVERMORE SAVATAGE AND GAMMA RAY.I THINK YOU WANT TO KNOW MY VIEW ON THE PRIEST SET?WELL I THINK THEY PLAYED VERY VERY LAID BACK AND SLOPPY.THE NEWER SONGS GOT VERY LOW RESPONSE FROM THE AUDIENCE.IT DOESN'T REALLY LOOK GOOD WHAT I SAW.ASIDE THIS PRIEST WAS THE ONLY BAND WHICH ACTED LIKE BIG SUPERSTARS-THEY THROWED ALL OTHER MUSICIANS OUT OF THE BACKSTAGE BEFORE THEIR SHOW WHAT A JOKE!

SIMONA:WHERE DO YOU THINK THE METAL OF THE 21ST CENTURY IS HEADING TO?
MAT:PEOPLE ARE STILL INTERESTED TO LISTEN TO HANDMADE METAL.IF YOU'D SEEN 15,000 ITALIANS BANGING TO FINAL EMBRACE YOU CAN BE SURE THERE'S A FUTURE FOR METAL.ON THE OTHER SIDE THERE WILL BE SOME NEW INFLUENCES FOR SURE, BUT WHAT CAN I SAY-I SURVIVED GRUNGE,I SURVIVED TECHNO AND RAP AND I HAVE NO PROBLEM TO SURVUIVE NEW METAL AS LONG AS THERE ARE ENOUGH FANS OUT THERE WHO ARE BELLIEVING IN PRIMAL FEAR AND OUT ATTITUDE!
SIMONA:IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY FOR PRIMAL FEAR TO COME TO ROMANIA??
MAT:AS ALWAYS WITH THIS KIND OF QUESTIONS THIS IS NOT IN OUR HANDS-PRIMAL FEAR WILL PLAY EVERYWHERE IF THE FANS WANT TO SEE US AND THERE IS A CHANCE TO SET UP A PROFESSIONAL SHOW.ROMANIA-WHY NOT? IF THERE'S A LOCAL PROMOTER HE SHOULD SEND US A MAIL

SIMONA:WHAT WOULD BE THE BAND YOU'D MOSTLY LIKE TO OPEN FOR??
MAT:TO BE HONEST-I DON'T HAVE A DREAM OF "OPENING" FOR A BAND ANY MORE.IF THE TIME IS RIGHT AND THE OFFER IS OK ,WE'LL THINK ABOUT OPENING BUT IT'S EVEN BETTERTO PLAY YOUR OWN HEADLINING TOUR WITH 90MINUTES+ TIME,YOUT OWN STAGE SETUP ETC.THIS MAKES MORE SENSE FOR US AND OUR FANS AND PRIMAL FEAR IS ABLE TO HEADLINE IN MOST OF THE WORLD'S COUNTRIES NOW, EVEN IF WE PLAY BEFORE 1000 FANS AND NOT BEFORE 15000.WE ARE SATISFIED WITH OUR SITUATION!
SIMONA:EXACTLY WHAT KIND OF GEAR DO YOU USE?
MAT:I PLAY WARWICK QUAD VI AMPS,AND SPEAKERS W-410PRO, AMPEG SVT AMPS,SAMSON WIRELESS SYSTEMS,WARWICK STREAMER BASS GUITARS,ESP LES PAUL BASS GUITARS,MUSIC MAN STERLING BASS GUITARS.
SIMONA:HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO KEEP PRIMAL FEAR AND SINNER AS SEPARATE PROJECTS WITH SEPARATE IDENTITIES??
MAT:AT THE MOMENT I CONCENTRATE FULL TIME ON PRIMAL FEAR. THERE IS NO TIME FOR SINNER IN OUR HEAVY SCHEDULE. AFTER OUR TOURING COMMITMENTS,WE WILL START WITH THE PRE PRODUCTIONS FOR PF NEXT ALBUM.THE MUSICIANS IN PF AND EVEN THE CREW MEMBERS ARE TRUE FRIENDS IN THEIR PRIVATE LIVES.THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME.I WILL RECORD A NEW SINNER ALBUM WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SCHEDULE YET.
SIMONA:ACTUALLY CAN YOU SEND ME SOME PICS OF YOUR GEAR??I HAVE ON MY SITE A STAR GEAR ALBUM THAT COULD USE SOME
MAT:OK, NO PROBLEM, BUT THERE IS ALWAYS A MAT SINNER INCLUDED:-)
SIMONA:WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW JUDAS PRIEST ALBUM??
MAT:MY GOD...I'M EVEN MORE DISAPPOINTED THAN I WAS WITH JUGULATOR.I THINK THE GUITAR SOUND SUCKS THE DRUM SOUND SUCKS.RIPPER SINGS OK BUT HE'S MILES AWAY FROM HIS STAGE PERFORMANCE OR FROM HALFORD.THE SONGS ARE OK BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE BEST METAL BAND OF THE WORLD.PLEASE DON'T CALL IT EVOLUTION IF YOU TRY RIP OFF LIMP BIZKIT OR WHITE ZOMBIE.PRIEST SHOULD BE PRIEST AND PROUD ENOUGH NOT TO RIP OFF THE GENERATION!WHERE'S THE SENSE AND REASON??
SIMONA:AND ONE MORE: HOW IS MATT SINNER AS A PERSON?IT MAY SOUND LAME BUT WHAT IS IT THAT YOU ACTUALLY DO WHEN YOU DON'T PLAY/PRACTICE/COMPOSE/TOUR?
MAT:I AM A PART OF THE NUCLEAR BLAST FAMILY-THAT'S MY HOME!
SIMONA:WHAT IS THE MUSIC THAT YOU ACTUALLY LISTEN TO?
MAT:I LIKE THE NEW ALBUMS FROM FUEL, THE CULT , STONE TEMPLE PILOTS AND DAVE MATTHEWS BAND.KIP WINGER'S SOLO ALBUM"THIS CONVERSATION SEEMS LIKE A DREAM TO ME" IS STILL MY FAVOURITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME!
SIMONA:WHAT IS IT THAT YOU DO ON TOUR WITH YOUR FREE TIME?DO YOU LIKE TO VISIT THE CITIES WHERE YOU HAVE CONCERTS??
MAT:YES, I'M THE ONE IN THE BAND WHO IS VERY INTERESTED TO GO INTO THE CITY,HAVE A COFFEE OR AN INTERNET CAFE - A GOOD DRINK AND FIND NEW IMPRESSIONS

INTERVIEW

(March 2000)

Yes! Thank God they're back with a vengeance! The legendary band from the eighties is back alive and kicking! A little before we listen to their new CD we interviewed Mat Sinner and learned lots of interesting things. Now, get a little Wiser! Read this interview!

1) We are fans of Sinner since the 80's. Which are the similarities and
what has changed since then?
First I thank you. Then the music is still heavy rock, with all
posibilities, no boundaries and a lot of melodies.
2) Which were your influences back then and what has made you to deside
to form a band?
Mainly Deep Purple in the Coverdale & Hughes days. Thin Lizzy is my
most loved band and music.

3) Are Sinner of today a personal Mat Sinner band or everything is a
product of team effort?
Please don't laugh, but both of your opinions are right. Mainly I plan
and decide all the important things, but the new recordings were done
by a perfect combination of musicans and friends, with a top result.

4) Why your latest work "The Nature of Evil" has been released in a
double CD?
We recorded 14 songs and decided to put 11 tracks on the album. The other 3 songs were not outtakes, they were strong songs. So we NB came up with the idea to release a limited edition with these 3 special tracks on a seperate CD. Cool thing.

5) Give the young Metal fan a good reason why he should buy the upcoming
Sinner album.
Great songs, great melodies and an excting raw, fresh edge. Music played
by fantastic musicians, who had a lot of fun and a good time in recording
this album .... and you can hear that!

6) What should we expect from your new Sinner album? Will you sound
different from your last work?
Uli Kusch has a different style of drumming and Henny Wolter is known
as a very powerful guitarist. This combination of these two guys fits
perfectly with my new songs. There will be a lot of cool melodies and
our trademark - the harmony guitar solos are produced to the next
level. The overall sound of the album will be very powerful.

7) What is more important, in your opinion, for a band, a strong
promotion or the experience?
Today you need a good combination of both parts to reach your fans.

8) Which are the 3 bigger bands that you have worked with as a producer
or a musician?
I worked with a lot of famous and great acts and I don't like to judge
who's better or more worthy. I'm a free man and I can decide what to
do or not. I love most of the albums I worked on.

9)What makes you keep going all these years with Sinner? Would there be
any reason that would make you leave the band?
I can't leave myself. If I think it's time for a break, I will do this,
but at the moment I'm really happy and excited about the work with the
SINNER guys and indeed my friends of Primal Fear.

10) With a few words tell me what you think about the following:
1) HELLOWEEN - good friends, with a fantastic drummer!
2) DOKKEN - cool band 15 years ago. Reb Beach is a fantastic guitarist.
3) GAMMA RAY - good friends, Dirk Schlchter was in the same studio
complex recording the new Brainstorm album. We get along well and Kai
is a longtime friend, great band.
4) DESTRUCTION - I wish 'em all the best for their comeback
5) IN EXTREMO - no comment

also to those that start to discover your music.
I thank our loyal fans all over the world for their support and the
